The Salt Cellar Series: Blue Mountain Winery
Monday, November 30th, 7:00 p.m. - $40

"Making complex wines of international calibre that are consistent in style and quality from year to year is the foundation of Blue Mountain."

BC's legendary Blue Mountain Vineyard & Cellars will be visiting the Salt Cellar at Salt Tasting Room to share an evening of wine, food and cheer.

The grapes that are harvested for Blue Mountain wines are sourced solely from its own vineyard. A philosophy of sustainable land management ensures limited chemical input. Using classic varietals, which originate in France in growing conditions like our own, we limit our crop yields resulting in higher concentration of the fruit. In the winery, winemaker Matt Mavety combines new technology with traditional techniques. The wines are handled minimally to ensure that the delicacy and intensity of flavours cultivated in the vineyard are expressed in the wine. French oak barrels are used in the cellar to soften and add complexity. All of these factors combine to result in a style and finesse fitting to the varietals.

We'll be tasting through an array of their wines, paired with charcuterie from J, N & Z Deli, Oyama Sausage Company and Moccia's Italian Meat Market. Artisan Cheeses from the UK, Spain, Italy, France & BC will be on offer along with artisan breads and more.

The Salt Cellar Series: Moccia’s Italian Meat Market & Driftwood Brewing
Monday, November 16th, 7:00 p.m. - $40

Salt Tasting Room has proudly served charcuterie from East Vancouver’s Moccia’s since day one. Moccia’s philosophy says it best:

Eating meat is a privilege, not a right. We believe animals should be treated with dignity and respect, not only for their sake, but for ours. A healthy animal means healthy food.

Our meats come from local, pasture raised, humanely treated animals.

No antibiotics or growth hormones are added.

Driftwood Brewing, out of Victoria, wanted to make and sell the kind of beer they liked best… beer that is fresh, brewed in the tradition of classic world styles but with the finest local ingredients. They have succeeded.

Join us for a fun, casual evening with the boys from Moccia’s and beers from Driftwood in the Salt Cellar on November 16th at 7:00 pm. Learn about the classic art of charcuterie, sample a variety of styles, and enjoy some phenomenal local craft beer.

The Salt Cellar Series: Dutton Goldfield
Wednesday, September 23rd, 7:00 p.m. - $80

We can't tell you how excited we are to be hosting a very exclusive dinner with Sonoma's highly-regarded Dutton Goldfield Winery, in conjunction with the Sonoma In The City Canadian Tour.

Hailing from the notorious Russian River Valley in Sonoma, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are the mainstays of the Dutton-Goldfield production. Using fruit from carefully chosen vineyards, they produce wine that reflects the natural tendencies of the area: crisp, well-structured wines that display the complexity, balance and intensity that the partners believe are key to world-class wines.

Dutton-Goldfield Winery's first releases were a Dutton Ranch Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the 1998 vintage. Today they continue to produce Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from Dutton Ranch plantings, numerous vineyard-designated wines, as well as small lots of old vine Zinfandel and hillside Syrah. The Dutton-Goldfield wines are crafted using traditional techniques such as barrel and malolactic fermentation for the Chardonnay, and open top fermentation for the Pinot Noir.

Check out these awesome reviews for their current releases!

All of Dutton Goldfield's wines are well over the $100 mark on restaurant wine lists (if they can even be found, that is), but with the gracious support of Blue Note Wine & Spirits, we're able to guide you through 6 of their most renowned selections plus two full courses of hand-crafted charcuterie from local producers such as J, N & Z Deli, Moccia's, and Oyama Sausage Company, along with artisan cheeses from Neal's Yard (UK), Italy, Spain, and British Columbia for $80, which includes all taxes abd gratuities as well.

Past, Present, & Futures: The Wines of Laughing Stock Vineyards
Monday, November 17, 2008 @ 7:00pm

After numerous research sojourns to vineyards and wineries of Europe and the United States, Cynthia & David, both with backgrounds in the financial sector, decided that BC's Okanagan Valley, and particularly the Naramata Bench, offered the very best locations for the production of ultra premium wines. Together, they purchased the vineyard property on Naramata Road in 2003 and have subsequently planted additional vines in Spring 2004 and built a gravity flow winery in 2005.  To date, their wines have been critically acclaimed, sell out every vintage, and have gained a cult following amongst local media and industry. Sherry 101 with Barb Philip
Wednesday, July 16, 2008 @ 7:00pm

Salt Tasting Room is excited to have local Master Of Wine Barb Philip presenting a fun and casual evening getting to know the wonderful world of Sherry! ‘Sherry 101’ will take place in the Salt Cellar, below Gastown’s Salt Tasting Room on Wednesday, July 16th at 7:00 p.m. In it’s two years of existence, Salt Tasting Room has been at the forefront of a Sherry renaissance in Vancouver, opening the eyes of all ages and walks of life to this often-overlooked style of wine. From chilled, citrusy Finos, to nutty and toffee-laden Olorosos and rich, fig and spiced PX’s, the various styles of Sherry are a perfect match for all styles of cheese and charcuterie.

Barb Philip, Canada’s only female Master Of Wine, has been one of Vancouver’s most beloved wine enthusiasts, due to her charismatic, fun and casual (yet thorough) approach to wine education. She has taught many of this city’s best sommeliers and service staff, and is known for her engaging and colourful
personality and wit. Barb will walk attendees through the different styles of Sherry, its history, and how to best pair it with the styles of food Salt offers. This is a past event
